MCU SDCC Announcements

 Buckle up everyone because this is gonna be a long one. This past Saturday Kevin Feige stepped on stage for SDCC and made a bunch of announcements and I’m gonna run through all of them right here in this blog. Before I jump into everything I want to shout out DiscussingFilm on twitter for live tweeting the whole entire panel and keeping everyone that wasn’t there in person up to date on all the MCU news and announcements.

To start the panel Feige announced the conclusion for Phase 4 will be Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on November 11, 2022 but before I get to that I want to talk about She-Hulk Attorney at Law!

First thing I want to admit is that after the first trailer I was really worried about how the CGI of this show specifically how Jen Walters was looking as the She-Hulk, but this trailer has eased my worries because it looks like they touched it up a bit and it is looking a little bit better. I’m honestly really excited for this show and I think between the 4th wall breaking, hopefully some court room scenes (like My Cousin Vinny sequel), and the cameos from characters like Abomination (with Tim Roth returning from The Incredible Hulk (2008), Bruce Banner Hulk which I want more of before Ruffalo is done with the character (Universal give the god damn rights over completely to Marvel),Wong which I mean anytime Wong  is in a project it’s literally a banger and that’s a fact look it up, AND FREAKING DAREDEVIL!!!!!!!! I honestly think this show could be Top 3 Disney+ Show for me!

Now before moving on to Phase 5 which could easily end up being one of my favorites phases ever, we need to talk about Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. I think the last time a movie made me this excited from just a teaser trailer was The Batman and I literally have a Batman tattoo!!! Emotionally this trailer hit hard especially with the mural of Chadwick Boseman had me choked up. This movie also visually looks so so so BEAUTIFUL! Phase 4 is going out with a bang with this movie and there is a lot to look forward to. We’re finally gonna see who will take up the mantle of the Black Panther will it be Shuri? M’Baku? Maybe a resurrected Killmonger? We’ll found out come November 11th but we’ll also be meeting Namor and I’m really excited to see some under water scenes and also seeing a Black Panther vs. Namor fight! Also our first look at Riri Williams who will have her own show Ironheart in 2023! Lastly before I move on don’t forget to wear all white or all one solid bright color to show respect to our boy Chadwick Boseman!!!

Now for Phase 5 we got:

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania release date: 2/17/2023

Secret Invasion Disney+ release date: TBD Spring 2023

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 release date: 5/5/2023

Echo Disney+ release date: Summer 2023

Loki Season 2 Disney+ release date: Summer 2023

The Marvels release date: 7/28/2023

Blade release date:11/3/2023

Ironheart release date: Fall 2023

Agatha Coven of Chaos release date: Winter 2023/24

Daredevil: Born Again release date: Spring 2024

Captain America: New World Order release date: 5/3/2024

Thunderbolts release date: 7/26/2024

Really solid lineup in my opinion and Armor Wars starring Don Cheadle I’m assuming will either be announced at some point for either Phase 5 or 6 and I expect some more announcements to be made during  D23 Expo 2022 in September.

Let’s talk a little about Ant-Man and the Wasp! I think this movie is gonna be a really big deal and here’s why. First off we are gonna get our I guess technically second look at Kang who we first saw in the Loki Disney+ show! 

Remember this guy! If you’re wondering what the big deal is, the title of the next Avengers movie is Avengers: The Kang Dynasty so we’ll be seeing the beginnings of the next Avengers villain! They told us at SDCC that a lot more time will be spent in this movie in the Quantum Realm which I think could possibly lead to seeing the TVA from Loki again! We will also get a live action MODOK which I’m interested to see what kind of design he gets. For reference this is MODOK.

Also Bill Murray will star in the movie which is exciting because it’s Bill Freaking Murray! Now before I move on I also have a feeling we may be getting a first look in this movie of at least one or possibly more members of the Fantastic Four! Just a gut feeling I have nothing to support this.

Do you guys think John Krasinski is returning to play Reed Richards? Do you guys want him to return or would you rather somebody else take up the role?

Next we got Secret Invasion! Hopefully we’ll see what Fury has been up to and Don Cheadle is returning as War Machine which I hope we get a dope new suit for. Cobie Smulders who plays Maria Hill had this to say about the show “an exciting thriller. You’re never going to know who people are. Are they a skrull?” Besides Nick Fury, Maria Hill, and War Machine I think we may see some more cameos within this show!

Moving on we got the final Guardians of the Galaxy movie Volume 3. James Gunn who’s been playing around in the DC Universe for a bit with The Suicide Squad (2021) and the Peacemaker show makes his return to the MCU. Gunn has confirmed that this movie is the end of the Guardians era in the MCU but he made it a point to say this “Some stories have an end, doesn’t mean everyone dies.” So don’t worry we won’t lose all of our Guardians that we’ve come to love over these years but brace yourself we may be losing somebody. The footage shown at SDCC also featured Baby Rocket so brace yourself for cuteness overload! We also met some of the new cast:

Chuckwudi Iwuji as the High Evolutionary (who Gunn brought over from the Peacemaker show)

Maria Bakalova as Cosmo the Space Dog (who we first saw in Guardians 1 in the post credit scene where Cosmo licks The Collectors face)

And Last but not least Will Poulter as Adam Warlock (who was teased in a Guardians 2 post credit scene)

 Personally I’m really excited to see Adam Warlock on the Big Screen also I expect this to be the next time we’ll see Harry Styles return as Eros and Pip along side him, who we first met in the post credits of Eternals!

After Guardians we’ll be getting an Echo Disney+ series spinning out of the Hawkeye show. At first I was skeptical because like a show about a Daredevil side character?!?! But then they announced that Charlie Cox (Daredevil) and Vincent D’Onofrio (Kingpin) will be in it and now I’m excited because all I want is more Charlie Cox as Daredevil and we will because unlike the other Disney+ shows Daredevil: Born Again is gonna be 18 YES 18 you read that’s correctly one eight 18 episodes long which means we’ll be getting HOURS OF DAREDEVIL and if you have not watched the 3 seasons of Daredevil that are not on Disney+ then what are you doing?!?

After Echo we get Loki which will be the first Disney+ show to get a Season 2 and of course you would it’s Tom Hiddleston the man is AN ACTOR!!!! I mean watch Thor (2011) again and tell me Tom Hiddleston isn’t the best actor in that movie. If you say I’m wrong I’m sorry but NO YOU ARE WRONG.

But yeah  I’m excited to see my BFF Tom act his ass off in Loki Season 2 hopefully more TVA stuff and maybe some cameos?!?!?

After Loki we’ll get The Marvels which was kinda set up by the Ms.Marvel show on Disney+. I think  this movie is gonna win me over with Captain Marvel and what I mean by that is I don’t feel like we’ve had the chance for Brie Larson to breathe as the character. I feel like Captain Marvel (2019) was rushed out before Endgame and then we haven’t really gotten to see her except in cameos since Endgame. I also really enjoyed Ms.Marvel and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan and I’m excited to see them interact and seeing Monica and Carol interact for the first time on screen since Captain Marvel!

After that we’ll have Blade with Mahershala Ali as the MCU’s blade! Kit Harrington will also return as the Black Knight who we first saw in the Eternals! I’m super excited for this movie, I’m hoping they lean into the vampire horror vibe and I’m really hoping we see Wesley Snipes (the original Blade) in a cameo. My dream cameo scenario is he’s the first vampire that we see the new Blade kill on screen. 

After Blade we’ll get Ironheart and Agatha: Coven of Chaos on Disney+. We’ll get our first look at Riri Williams played by Dominique Thorne in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. I’m not expecting a full Ironheart suit in that movie but hopefully by the time the show comes out she has a suit built and we get some more Iron suit content between her and War Machine to fill the hole of Tony Stark. With this show I’m not sure what we’ll get and same goes for Agatha: Coven of Chaos I’m really not sure what we’ll be getting with both shows but as we get closer and maybe see a trailer or two eventually I’ll have some more thoughts on these two!

I’ll skip Daredevil:Born Again because I kinda talked about it earlier but remember 18 EPISODES!!!

To close out Phase 5 we are getting Captain America: New World Order and Thunderbolts! I’m stoked for both. I wasn’t a huge fan of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier just because of a plot point that was totally overlooked that I felt was necessary to keep in the show but was taken out but I really did enjoy the final episode especially finally seeing Sam in his Cap suit and using the shield and his wings!!! I think we’ll see Sam and maybe some help fight the Thunderbolts team who are kinda like a Marvel version of the Suicide Squad. I’m also curious what the Thunderbolt team will look like you got a pretty good list of characters to choose from:Yelena Belova, John Walker, Baron Zemo, Ghost, Abomination, Taskmaster, and possibly others!!!

Lastly Feige announced the beginning and end of Phase 6 and you’ve made it this far THANK YOU SO MUCH! 

Phase 6 begins with the first MCU Fantastic Four Movie and ends with 2 AVENGERS MOVIES BACK TO BACK!!! FIRST TIME EVER WE’RE GETTING BACK TO BACK AVENGERS MOVIES!!!

I’m so excited to go on this ride and journey for the next 3 years and see how this all plays out! I wonder what the FF cast will look like. I also wonder if there will be an established Avengers Team prior to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty? Also will the FF movie be the next time we see Spider-Man?!? We’ll see in time!
